Mauricio Pochettino has revealed to Football London that chairman Daniel Levy has been dreaming about Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium for a long time – a very long time.
Tottenham christen their new £1 billion home tonight when Crystal Palace visit North London.
The opening of the stadium was delayed by six months, but that’s a minuscule hitch in comparison to how long Levy has had the ‘vision’ of it.
According to Pochettino, the Spurs supremo has had plans for the arena as long ago as 2001, the same year he arrived at the club.
The Argentine manager told Football London: “I was talking with Daniel before. When he and all the people started to think about the new project in 2001 after 18 years that dream has become a reality.
“It’s amazing, an exciting moment for our fans and players but it is special moment for Daniel Levy our chairman. He started with this idea and had the vision to deliver it.”
Sentiment aside, it’s a massive game for Pochettino’s side tonight.
If Chelsea win at home to Brighton and Tottenham drop points against the Eagles, they will drop out of the top four.
Champions League qualification is a major revenue stream and it would be disastrous if the Lilywhites finish fifth or lower this season.
