Tottenham Hotspur were dumped out of the Champions League by Juventus last week.
Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen sat down for an exclusive interview with the Independent, and admitted that he and his teammates were too confident during their defeat to Juventus in the Champions League last week.
Spurs were arguably the better side over the two legs against the Italian champions, but lacked a certain kind of nouse that is required in the business end of Europe’s premier competition.
More questions were asked of Mauricio Pochettino’s side after the exit from the Champions League, and many believe that they lack the big-game mentality required to do well in Europe.
The Dane alluded to the fact that his side lacked the experience shown by Juve during their Champions League clash, and admitted that Tottenham were over confident that they would progress through to the quarter-finals, as quoted by the Independent:
“Juventus were waiting for it, I think. I think we were almost over-confident that it couldn’t go wrong. We were in a good position, almost a perfect position, to go through. We know they were more used to the bigger stages, they don’t need the ball as much.”
Spurs now have the FA Cup and the top four race in the Premier League to focus on.
Eriksen and his teammates would surely have learned from their exit from the Champions League at the hands of Juventus, and it could stand them in good stead for their future, as they continue to evolve as a football team.
