Could another club in the Premier League field such a strong side of players 23 and under?

With Cameron Carter-Vickers joining Tottenham’s roll call of contract extensions, and being another youngster to do so to boot, we thought it would be worthwhile to put together an XI of the club’s best players of the age of 23 and under.

23 is of course the age limit for the new Premier League 2 division that functions as a clubs’ reserve league, and though sides can select a number of overage players in these games, it is interesting to see the strength of side Spurs can put forward, with a substitutes bench to go with it, without having to do that – highlighting the quality of their young players.

Goalkeeper & Defence: Pau Lopez; Kyle Walker-Peters, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kevin Wimmer, Ben Davies

The defensive areas of the team start of with Espanyol loanee Pau Lopez (21) in goal. Despite having failed to make an appearance yet for Spurs he is one of Spain’s top prospects in that position. Ahead of him are two 23-year-olds who are already firmly first team members (Wimmer and Davies) and two of the club’s brightest prospects, fullback Kyle Walker-Peters (19) alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers (18), newly committed until 2019.

Midfield: Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Josh Onomah, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, Dele Alli

What a hugely promising batch of players Spurs have here, with current England internationals Eric Dier (22) and Dele Alli (20) already starring for club and country, and summer signing Georges-Kevin Nkoudou (21) also looking like a hugely exciting talent. Josh Onomah (19) and Harry Winks (20), who have both stepped up to the first team squad over the last 12 months, make up the midfield.

Attack: Harry Kane

It is crazy to believe that Tottenham talisman Harry Kane is still only 23-years-old, having scored over 50 league goals for his boyhood club. The striker would captain this line up, and the sooner he is back for Spurs for real the better.

Subs bench: Luke McGee (21) Anton Walkes (19) Nabil Bentaleb (21) Will Miller (20) Nathan Oduwa (20) Marcus Edwards (17) Vincent Janssen (22)
