The young Tottenham Hotspur ‘keeper had a match to remember on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur have so many exciting players coming through their ranks right now that fans would be forgiven for missing some of them all together.

One such player is 17-year-old goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman, who shone for England in their opening U17 World Cup match against Guinea at the weekend.

Whiteman had earlier seen his young Tottenham teammate Marcus Edwards denied from the penalty spot but that disappointment did not prevent him from ultimately playing a match-defining role.

The pick of Whiteman’s saves was the one that kept out Yamodoe Toure’s attempt prior to half-time, and with three huge contributions throughout the 90 minutes there is no doubt the Tottenham teenager deserved all the pats on the back that would later come his way.

Whiteman made his debut for Tottenham’s under-21 side this season, but he will want to do better when he returns to domestic matters after shipping four goals in a 7-4 victory against Leicester City in late September.
