Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is playing down reports of a return to Bayern Munich as he faces an uncertain future at the Premier League outfit.
It’s fair to say the respective styles of Ange Postecoglou and Antonio Conte – or Jose Mourinho for that matter – could hardly be further removed from each other. Chalk and cheese, as they say.
And while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s industry and aggression off the ball made him a key cog in Conte’s machine, Postecoglou tends to demand a more proactive, technically-gifted option in the deep-lying midfield role. See Callum McGregor at Celtic.
As such, the hard-working-but-limited Hojbjerg, according to The Sun, is facing an uncertain future under the new Tottenham boss.
BILD believe that a return to the Bundesliga champions could be on the cards; Bayern looking at more affordable midfield options after seemingly losing out for Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo. Both of whom seem keen on moves to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

Hojbjerg, however, is keen to distance himself from the speculation.
“What is fortunate is that we play the international match tomorrow,” Hojbjerg tells Tipsbladet. “And then the focus is there. What comes next is fortunately out of my hands.”
Hojbjerg’s Denmark side face Slovenia in their Euro 2024 qualifier on Monday.
“At least what I can focus on is the work that needs to be done tomorrow,” he adds. “I have spoken about my time in Munich before, but I don’t have much to say about it.”
Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are among those also reportedly fighting for their future at Spurs. Postecoglou needs more proactive, cultured options at his disposal if he is to instil the sort of dynamic, front-foot football that helped Celtic win yet another domestic treble in 2022/23.
One former Spurs midfielder, however, believes Hojbjerg still has an important part to play in what could be a transitional season in North London.
“Surprised a bit, with Hojbjerg,“ Danny Murphy tells talkSPORT (14 June, 11am). “I think he’s terrifically tenacious. You need one in the middle who does what he does. Honest as the day is long. Tidy on the ball. Always there, durable, doesn’t miss many games, helps the defenders.
“I am surprised at that one.”
