Tottenham Hotspur are looking to tie Christian Eriksen down to a new deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer Christian Eriksen a new contract worth £140,000 per week, report Daily Mail.
This would more than double Eriksen’s current salary, and is a big commitment from chairman Daniel Levy.
However it may not be enough to keep the Dane.
Here are three reasons why Tottenham fans should temper their expectations Eriksen will immediately put pen to paper on a contract extension.
He could earn more elsewhere

Any job where you can double your salary is a no-brainer, except if you are one of the world’s best footballers. Eriksen could triple it instead.
Coutinho earns £200,000 per week at Barcelona and Eriksen could demand this as minimum if he were to secure a move to the La Liga champions.
When you consider the astronomical salaries earned by the likes of Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United, worth £350,000 per week, then even Tottenham’s latest offer would make a player of Eriksen’s talent underpaid.
He likes holding the power

If it were really all about the money, Eriksen would have signed a deal above £70,000 per week long before now.
Eriksen is enjoying holding the power and keeping control over his own future.
Tottenham are on the precipice of success, but they aren’t there yet. Eriksen is giving himself a get out clause if the club go on a downturn in fortunes.
Pochettino is key

The most likely reason for a dip in Tottenham’s fortunes would be manager Mauricio Pochettino leaving.
It would be a kick in the teeth for Eriksen to sign a new contract and then see his boss quit at the end of the season.
Eriksen could simply be keeping his options open to ensure he is not left behind, and wants further assurances that his manager will snub both Real Madrid and Manchester United at the end of the season.
