Tottenham Hotspur were desperate to add a new striker over the summer, as Jose Mourinho sought cover and competition for Harry Kane.

Spurs were linked with a whole host of centre forwards, and ended up making a new signing as Carlos Vinicius arrived on loan from Benfica.

The Brazilian has shown promising signs so far, suggesting that he could be exactly what Spurs have been seeking – but new rumours may still be a source of frustration.

The Sun report that West Ham United are keen on signing Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, with his price tag slashed to around £30million.

David Moyes is thought to be a big fan, and Dembele would certainly be a huge coup despite failing to find the net for Lyon this season.

Dembele has shown his quality for Lyon, smashing 44 goals in his first two seasons for the club, and Tottenham were seemingly keen.

Get French Football News reported last month that Tottenham had made a loan-to-buy offer for Dembele over the summer, similar to the one they struck with Real Betis for Giovani Lo Celso in 2019.

Lyon rejected that bid, but could now sell Dembele to West Ham for just £30million if these new rumours are to be believed.

The permanent option in the Vinicius deal is worth £36million according to ESPN, and Spurs may well be tempted to go back in for Dembele if they really can land him for cheaper.

It may be worth Spurs keeping tabs on the situation, but they would surely be gutted to see him turn up in East London having wanted to sign him themselves.
