Tottenham Hotspur should challenge Chelsea for the Juventus defender.

According to a report from Goal, Chelsea are readying a £45 million bid for Juventus star Daniele Rugani, but Tottenham should surely challenge their London rivals for his signature, if they intend to sell Toby Alderweireld this summer.
The Belgian has been heavily linked with an exit from White Hart Lane, with the Sun (July 22nd print edition, page 61) reporting that Manchester United are leading the race for his signature.
And Rugani would be the ideal addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Whilst £45 million seems like a lot of money for Tottenham to lay out, they are expected to garner somewhere in the region of £60-75 million for Alderweireld’s services, so they would easily be able to afford a move for Rugani.
The 23-year-old is a classy defender in every sense.
Standing at just over 6ft 2in tall, the Juve man is strong in the air, and he is also an expert reader of the game.
Being Italian, he excels when man-marking, and he would provide fantastic competition for Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen at Spurs.

Rugani is already incredibly experienced, despite his tender years, and he would be an outstanding addition to the Tottenham squad.
By bringing the Juve man to north London, Pochettino would also deliver a hammer blow to Maurizio Sarri’s plans at Chelsea.
And Spurs should not hesitate to hijack their rival’s interest in the Italian.
