Tottenham star Danny Rose is in the treatment room and could miss the start of next season with a knee injury, the club’s official website confirms.

There was though good news this week about another Tottenham talent, 20-year-old talent Anthony Georgiou.

Georgiou has been out of action for the under-23 side since November.

He made his comeback off the bench in 3-2 defeat to Manchester United, and nearly scored an equalising goal, denied only by the brilliance of Red Devils stopper Joel Pereira.

Georgiou plays on the wing although can also fill in at left-back. He has seven assists in 28 appearances for Tottenham’s under-21s/under-23 sides.

Head of development John McDermott singled out Georgiou for praise, telling the club website: “Anthony Georgiou came back from injury and I’m delighted for him.

“He’s worked really hard, he’s had a couple of setbacks along the way so I know it’s been a really difficult time for him but he came on, he looked strong, quick, aggressive and even created a chance for himself at the end there.

“He’ll be a little bit disappointed that he didn’t score his chance but he’s the positive for today.”

Georgiou has one year left on his Tottenham contract and faces a big 12 months in order to start progressing and make up for lost time.

His ability to play at left-back could help him become an option should Spurs pursue playing with wing-backs, and with Danny Rose injured, there could be a chance for him to impress in pre-season.
