Napoli are set to sign Tanguy Ndombele on loan with his medical booked for Thursday, but Tottenham Hotspur will continue to pay almost 75% of the midfielder’s wage while in Italy.
Napoli set to sign Tanguy Ndombele after agreeing loan terms with Tottenham
According to Foot Mercato, Napoli have won the race sign Tanguy Ndombele on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. The Serie A side fought off strong competition from Villarreal over the Frenchman’s services, with Unai Emery’s La Liga outfit exploring a bid during recent weeks.

Ndombele will move to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in an initial season-long loan, which carries an option to buy. Spurs have allowed the Azzurri the option to purchase their €60m (£54m) club-record arrival from Lyon for €30m (£25m) at the end of the 2022/23 term.

Tottenham will also contribute toward paying the bulk of Ndombele’s wages whilst the 25-year-old plies his trade in Italy. Napoli are only responsible for €3.5m-a-season of his wage, equating to £57k-a-week. Per Spotrac, Spurs gave the midfielder a £200k-a/w deal to join.
Only a few final details are left to be signed off before Napoli can register Ndombele as the Azzurri’s latest capture. The final hiccups are with the seven-cap international’s agent, and relate to terms based on the Naples outfit taking up the option to buy Ndombele next year.
Napoli and Tottenham expect the final terms for Ndombele’s transfer will be resolved this Thursday, or Friday at the latest. He should, therefore, be a part of Luciano Spalletti’s side in the imminent future, and he could even debut for the Azzurri at home to Monza this Sunday.

Tanguy Ndombele due in Italy for medical on Thursday ahead of Serie A switch
Ndombele should also arrive in Italy soon, as Calciomercato report the Tottenham ace will undergo his Napoli medical on Thursday. The Serie A side will also only pay Spurs €1m for his temporary spell, with their €30m (£25m) option to buy set outside of a £850k loan fee.
His transfer to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at a sizable discount from the fee the north Londoners paid Lyon in 2019 shows the scale of Ndombele’s wasted potential. Jose Mourinho was a huge advocate of his, after replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs’ helm.
“Tanguy is playing amazing,” Mourinho said in September 2020, via quotes by Goal. “I am very, very happy. You can feel the happiness.
“Physically he has to be better, he will be better. But if you compare this Tanguy with last season’s Tanguy, there is no point in comparing. But he can get better – he can be really phenomenal.”
