The Everton midfielder was tipped to reunite with his old boss at Tottenham Hotspur last year.

Tottenham Hotspur will perhaps feel they have dodged a bullet with Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Frenchman played under Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, and was long tipped to follow the Argentine to north London – even after his big-money move to Manchester United in 2015.
The Mail reported in August of the following year that Spurs were weighing up a move for Schneiderlin, although they ultimately plumped for Moussa Sissoko – ironically ahead of Everton.

And after Schneiderlin – who moved to Everton for £20 million five months afterwards – was left out of his manager’s squad to face Watford on Sunday [although he has since denied the Guardian’s claim it was because he’d walked out of a training session the previous day], Tottenham could be forgiven for feeling pretty damn good about themselves.
Not only has Schneiderlin’s Everton career fail to live up to its initial promise, Sissoko’s Tottenham one has followed the exact opposite path.

And in addition to their own French international’s improvement, they have also unearthed one of England’s most talented prospects, Harry Winks, in the time since that Schneiderlin link in the Mail.
It’s a situation that perhaps few would have predicted, unless of course they’re Pochettino.
