Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Weston McKennie and the midfield has earned praise for a ‘sensational’ setup in the USA’s win over Iran.

USA went into Tuesday’s game against Iran knowing that a win would take them into the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Gregg Berhalter’s side had earned draws against Wales and England and secured their passage to the last 16.

Christian Pulisic grabbed the only goal of the game from close range, setting up a last 16 meeting with the Netherlands on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Weston McKennie

The goal was neatly constructed and came from a lovely McKennie pass.

Juventus midfielder McKennie played an angled pass in behind the Iran defence with right back Sergino Dest bombing forward.

Dest nodded the ball across goal for Pulisic to tap in, though he picked up an injury in the process.

The American media were dazzled by that McKennie pass, with CBS Sports calling it ‘sensational’ and ‘the perfect pass’.

They only rated McKennie at 6.5 out of 10 though and it was a similar story from Sporting News, who only went with a 6 out of 10.

USA Today went with a 7 out of 10 for McKennie and called his pass for the Pulisic goal ‘beautiful’.

McKennie creating a lovely goal comes just as rumours about his future accelerate once again.

Tuttosport claim that Tottenham have started new talks to try and sign McKennie in the January transfer window.

Fabio Paratici is understood to be a huge fan of McKennie having signed him for Juventus from Schalke in 2020.

McKennie has been linked with Tottenham regularly but it sounds like they’re ramping up their move through intermediary agents.

The pass for Pulisic’s goal sums up what McKennie could bring to Tottenham and Paratici will surely have been watching his performance in Qatar very closely.
