Tottenham are considering Weston McKennie but the Juventus midfielder hasn’t exactly earned rave review after Juventus were beaten by Benfica.

Juventus headed off to Lisbon knowing they simply had to claim all three points.

Defeat to Maccabi Haifa last time out left Juventus clinging on for dear life but now it’s done; Juventus won’t be in the Champions League knockout stages.

A 4-3 defeat to Benfica was actually worse than the scoreline showed with Juve going 4-1 down before pulling a couple back.

Tottenham are considering Weston McKennie

This defeat only serves to heap the pressure on boss Massimiliano Allegri.

Juventus looked rudderless in Lisbon and the Italian media haven’t held back on their players.

American international Weston McKennie started the game and actually set up a tense finale by making it 4-3.

Tuttomercatoweb rated McKennie at just 5/10 for Tuesday’s performance though, stating that he just makes ‘mistakes and mistakes’, both going forward and defensively.

This comes amid suggestions that McKennie could be on the move to Tottenham in January.

Il Bianconero reported over the weekend that Tottenham remain keen on McKennie having pursued him ever since Fabio Paratici’s arrival.

CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs reported earlier this week that Tottenham are undecided over a January deal for McKennie but he did meet with Paratici over a January 2022 move.

Tottenham may well be keeping tabs on McKennie but last night’s showing may not have been the best showcase of his talents.

McKennie will be in action at the World Cup with the 24-year-old likely to play a key role for the United States.

Tottenham will be able to see how McKennie fares in Qatar before making a January move, but some will wonder whether he is really any kind of upgrade on the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
