Tottenham want Weston McKennie and Juventus targeting Emerson Royal may just open the door to a potential 2023 swap deal.

Spurs appointed Antonio Conte back in November of last year and that meant committing to playing with wing backs.

Tottenham had snapped up Emerson from Barcelona with the idea of playing him in a back four, which made sense.

Conte quickly came in though and that meant forcing Emerson into the team as a wing back.

That hasn’t really worked yet though and it’s hard to see the Brazilian offering the attacking output Conte really wants at right wing back.

Could Tottenham swap Emerson Royal for Weston McKennie?

Many expected Emerson to leave Tottenham over the summer, especially after the signing of Djed Spence.

Yet the summer window ended with Emerson still at Tottenham and he continues to play regularly – much more than Spence.

It could be different in 2023 though as Juventus are very keen on signing Emerson.

SportItalia’s Rudy Galetti reported earlier this month that Juventus are looking to sign the Brazilian in the summer.

They would even sign Real Madrid’s Alvaro Odriozola on loan just to tide them over until they can sign Emerson.

Tottenham may not put up too much of a fight to keep hold of Emerson and whilst cash would be great, there would be scope for a swap deal.

Tottenham have been keen on signing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Tottenham want McKennie and Juventus are willing to let him leave in 2023.

Fabio Paratici is understood to be a big fan of McKennie having brought him to Juventus from Schalke in 2020.

McKennie would give Conte another option in midfield and a swap deal could work for all parties.

Tottenham would get the midfielder they want whilst offloading a player who just doesn’t really fit into Conte’s approach.

Emerson would be able to join a major club and play in a back four on a regular basis.

Swap deals are pretty difficult in football and never really happen as much as you would think, but Emerson for McKennie does make some sense.
