Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have landed a boost to their interest in Sassuolo star Davide Frattesi. The midfielder has admitted he no longer wants any transfer to Roma.

It was the 23-year-old’s dream to return to the Stadio Olimpico last summer after starting his career in their academy. But a potential move back to the Italian capital collapsed over a couple of million euros. Now, Frattesi will be looking to embark on a different adventure.

But the Rome-born technician does not yet know where the future will take him. Frattesi is under contract with Sassuolo until June 2026 after extending his contract last May. But the four-cap Italy international is highly sought-after among Serie A and Premier League clubs.

What has Frattesi said amid interest from Tottenham and West Ham in a transfer?

Reports by TuttoMercatoWEB have credited Tottenham and West Ham with an interest in a transfer from Sassuolo for Frattesi. But the London rivals must compete with Napoli for a deal. Calciomercato also credits Roma with renewed interest in a deal along with AC Milan.

Further reports by Calciomercato note the Neroverdi would have sold him over January for €35m (£31m). No team stepped forward for a deal at that price despite the midfielder’s six goals in 26 games this season. Now, Frattesi does not know where he will play next season.

“Last summer, when I could move to Roma, the transfer didn’t materialise for a couple of million,” Frattesi told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I never asked why Roma didn’t really want me.

He added: “I preferred not to elaborate and now I don’t think about it anymore. I don’t know where I will play but I have a different approach to my future.”

Brighton boss De Zerbi hopes to disrupt the wide-open race for the Sassuolo star

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi also hopes to disrupt the race to secure the transfer of Frattesi. Ciro Venerato has noted that the Seagulls coach wants to frustrate any bids that Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli make. Frattesi is certain to spark a wide auction.

Tottenham, West Ham and Frattesi’s other suitors will be glad the Sassuolo star no longer dreams of a transfer to Roma, though. He never featured for the Giallorossi’s senior squad after graduating from their academy. He also only made their matchday team three times.
