Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared a view from inside Tottenham Hotspur, claiming that they weren’t happy when news of their meeting with Erik Ten Hag was leaked.
We were told, by Romano himself, about details of Spurs’ meeting with the 51-year-old Ajax boss.
Indeed, the report claimed that Spurs weren’t sold on Ten Hag so they decided to go for another boss, but the club apparently weren’t happy that this information was leaked to journalists.
“Let’s see what happens in the next weeks, at the moment there is nothing coming up because with the last rumours, Tottenham were not happy with the rumours coming out with Ten Hag and others, so they want to keep it a secret, so let’s see. At the end of the season I think they will announce a new manager, because they will 100% change and they need a new manager, obviously,” Romano said.
To be fair, it makes sense why Spurs weren’t happy about this.
Ajax triggered Ten Hag’s contract extension clause after hearing about the meeting, while it also lowers their power when it comes to negotiating in the future.
It makes sense for Spurs to want to do this kind of business under wraps, but in this day and age, it’s almost impossible to work in that way, especially when appointing a new manager.
With Romano saying that Spurs want to keep everything a secret from now on, don’t be surprised if their next managerial appointment comes from out of nowhere and we don’t hear about the new gaffer before he’s announced.
It remains to be seen who Tottenham appoint as their new manager.
