Mohamed Salah is tearing Premier League defences to pieces with his sensational form for Liverpool.
The Egyptian has scored 28 goals in 30 games for the Reds, and will be leaving rival clubs questioning why they did not move for him at £36 million last summer.
Tottenham Hotspur could have signed him at an even cheaper price.
The Express reported in 2014 that Tottenham were eyeing up a move for Salah at just £13 million.
Salah was in his first year at Chelsea and was struggling to get into their starting XI, and new Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly eyeing a cut price bid.
Chelsea and Tottenham have been reluctant to do business ever since the Luka Modric and Willian fallouts, and this could have scuppered the Lilywhites’ chances of signing the winger.
Salah was loaned out to Serie A instead, and here he found form before Liverpool paid up for him last summer.
Perhaps Tottenham’s mistake was not simply failing to close a deal for Salah while he was at Chelsea, but instead failing to follow it up.
This summer he was there for the taking, and Tottenham waited until January to sign a winger, having mistakenly bought flops Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou in preceding summers.
Their inaction has been Liverpool’s gain, and his success has been truly spectacular.
