Tottenham were linked with 22-year-old, now he’s won Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament

Only last month, Sky Italia were claiming that Tottenham were trying to lure PSG-bound, Gianluigi Donnarumma, towards their direction.

Fast forward today and the 22-year-old has broken English, and Tottenham, hearts by helping Italy win Euro 2020 against England at Wembley on Sunday night.

Donnarumma saved two penalties during the nerve-racking shootout and he was then crowned Player of the Tournament by UEFA.

The former AC Milan superstar didn’t win the Golden Glove – that was won by Jordan Pickford – but Donnarumma was still crucial in his side defying the odds and being crowned champions of Europe on the international stage.

Perhaps those in the Tottenham boardroom didn’t have much of a chance to sign the England heartbreaker anyway, but he has just proven why he will be the best keeper in the world one day.

Some will probably hand him that tag now given that he is a Euro champion, but if he does indeed make that switch to France, then his stock will only rise.

At this moment in time, it’s at an all-time high, after he kept Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka at bay last night.

Even though England took a very early lead, they just couldn’t get going during the 120 minutes, with Italy’s man between the sticks not being tested as much.

And now he can put his name next to the likes of Xavi and Zinedine Zidane as players who have won Player of the Tournament at the Euros.
