Jamie Carragher has claimed that one-Tottenham target, Luis Diaz, is ‘at the level’ of his Liverpool teammate, Mo Salah, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.

The Liverpool legend claimed that Diaz wouldn’t have signed for the club if Tottenham didn’t push for his signature last month.

During the January transfer window, the Reds put £37 million on the table to Porto (Sky Sports) and landed the talents of the all-action forward.

It could have been different for the Colombian because he could have been in Spurs colours, but instead, he’s winning a trophy with the Merseyside club.

Given that Jurgen Klopp has one trophy in the bag this season – the League Cup – Carragher feels Diaz could make a ‘massive difference’ in his side really making themselves known this term.

“The interesting point about the Diaz signing is Liverpool only signed him because Tottenham went for him,” said Carragher.

“I think he could make a massive difference to Liverpool at this stage of the season because of his performances. Actually think about what this Liverpool team would have been like if he hadn’t signed.

“Diaz is at their level (Salah and Mane). I think this is something Liverpool fans need to remind themselves about. This fella could make a huge difference for Liverpool this season in winning big trophies.

“If Tottenham hadn’t gone for him, then Liverpool wouldn’t have got him. If there is a player there, go for him and get him.”

Tottenham may have provided those on Merseyside with a helping hand that could result in them winning numerous trophies this season.

The Reds already have one trophy to their name after they beat Chelsea in an enthralling penalty shootout in the League Cup final on Sunday.

They are still in three more competitions – Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup.

No team in history has won the quadruple, and in truth, Liverpool aren’t going to do it now, but that doesn’t mean they still cannot add to that Wembley triumph.
