Tottenham Hotspur think they’re getting closer to signing Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, but they have been warned that the deal isn’t done yet.
Tomiyasu has become one of Fabio Paratici’s top targets in his first transfer window as Tottenham’s director of football.
The Japanese international has excelled under Sinisa Mihajlovic, impressing at right back or centre back since arriving from Belgian side Sint-Truiden in 2019.
Paratici has clearly been left enamoured with Tomiyasu, and is now pushing to bring him to Tottenham in order to bolster Nuno’s defensive options.
The Athletic reported just a matter of days ago that Tottenham are on the verge of signing Tomiyasu in a deal worth £15million plus add-ons.
Branded a ‘warrior’ by Bologna teammate Mitchell Dijks, Tomiyasu could now call England home – but he has Olympic Games obligations with Japan first.

Tottenham may think the deal is all but done, but Bologna managing director Claudio Fenucci has now told Tuttomercatoweb that he still hopes the defender stays put.
Fenucci mentioned Tottenham by name, stating that ‘we’ll see’ if the deal happens as it will rely on Tomiyasu wanting the move and Tottenham paying what Bologna want, so it looks like there is still some work to be done.
“Tomi will play the Olympics and is currently a player of Bologna and I hope he will remain so,” said Fenucci. “If he expresses his will to go to the Premier League and Tottenham will respect our requests, we’ll see,” he added.
