Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Celtic playmaker Matt O’Riley but face a battle with three Premier League rivals.

Ange Postecoglou may seek a January reunion with Celtic star Matt O’Riley as Tottenham Hotspur eye signings.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that O’Riley is attracting major interest ahead of the January transfer window.

O’Riley could have been heading out of Celtic in August as Sky Sports reported that Leeds United failed with a £10million offer.

O’Riley has knuckled down and produced dazzling displays for Celtic, racking up six goals and four assists in 14 games this season.

Now being described as a £50million player by Celtic teammate Alistair Johnston, O’Riley is attracting loftier interest…

Tottenham Hotspur keen on Celtic’s Matt O’Riley

TEAMtalk now claim that Tottenham are interested in signing O’Riley in January.

Spurs have seen James Maddison thrive this season but may want cover and competition in case the England star suffers an injury.

O’Riley would fit the bill and he has already racked up eight goals and 16 assists under Spurs boss Postecoglou during their time together at Celtic.

A London reunion may be a real possibility but Tottenham are far from alone in the race for O’Riley’s signature.

It’s stated that Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford and West Ham United also fancy signing O’Riley.

Celtic surely won’t be keen on a January sale but Premier League clubs could now throw money at signing the Dane.

O’Riley played down disliking Postecoglou

The natural connection here is Postecoglou, who saw O’Riley’s quality and potential at Celtic.

However, O’Riley got himself in a spot of bother after Postecoglou decided to leave Celtic for Tottenham.

O’Riley suggested that replacement Brendan Rodgers had brought ‘openness’ to Celtic and his willingness to sit and chat with players was ‘a nice, refreshing kind of change’.

Those comments were interpreted as a dig at Postecoglou, with O’Riley then forced to deny any issues between himself and the now-Spurs boss.

O’Riley later stated that his comments were ‘blown out of proportion’ and he was just appreciating a different managerial style.

The Dane added that Postecoglou is the manager he has learned the most from, ultimately becoming ‘so much better’ as a player.

The links do seem a little surprising as the relationship seemed all business rather than anything personal, but maybe Postecoglou thinks that O’Riley can be an ideal addition to this exciting Spurs side.
