Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up Marc Guehi just one year after Premier League rivals Chelsea sold the defender to Crystal Palace for £18 million, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Eyebrows were certainly raised when Palace – hardly one of the division’s most free-spending sides – forked over a huge sum of money last year for a player who had never started a top-flight game before.
12 months on, you can consider that £18 million investment re-paid with interest.
Guehi, Crystal Palace’s Player of the Season and a newly-capped England international, has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water following an impressive loan spell at Swansea City in the Championship.
Excellent in the air and composed with the ball at his feet, Guehi is the epitome of the modern-day centre-half. And, with Chelsea losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, one wonders if Thomas Tuchel may be wishing he could turn back the clock as the former Stamford Bridge youngster goes from strength to strength a few miles down the road at Selhurst Park.
“He’s a joy to play alongside for sure. He leads by example,” Palace team-mate Joel Ward says of a man who has already captained The Eagles at 21.
“His composure on the ball, his vision, his range of passing… It’s great to see and I think he’s got an extremely bright future.”

Interestingly, there already appears to be a mutual admiration between Guehi and Harry Kane, the England skipper and Tottenham talisman (Football London).
Spurs will have to part with a colossal sum of money if they want to reunite the London-based duo at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Crystal Palace would surely only consider cashing in on Guehi if they are offered the chance to make a huge profit on a player they paid £18 million for as recently as last year.
Right-footed but comfortable on the opposite side, Guehi is one of many left-leaning centre-halves on Tottenham’s radar. Sven Botman and Nico Schlotterbeck have already agreed moves to AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund however.
