Tottenham are interested in Wolves star Ruben Neves with only a fortnight left to go in the January transfer window – a player that blew Matt Doherty away in 2020, saying has one of the best technical abilities he has ever seen in football.
Neves, who is still only 25, has clocked up 237 appearances for Wolves in all competitions. Joining the club from Porto in the summer of 2017, he has since become the club’s captain – becoming renowned for his long-range shooting.
With Conor Coady leaving for Everton, Neves has worn the armband this season. But his long-term future at Molineux is in doubt – with his contract ending in 2024. The 37-time Portugal star has regularly been linked with massive clubs.

“We have players in the team who can do that [on Neves]. He’s done it before, and the way he shoots…I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody with the technique to be able to strike a ball on goal as well as he can,” Doherty said, on Neves.

Tottenham do have a number of options in the middle of the park. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are all options. Harry Winks, Gio Lo Celso and more have left Spurs on loan.
But you would argue that while there is huge competition, Neves is a player Spurs have got to sign. That is because, Neves is a massive improvement on Tottenham’s current options. If Spurs have a chance, they have got to get him.
