Tottenham want £39m ‘leader’ amid claims he would ‘love’ to sign for Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur are now interested in signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo as Ange Postecoglou seeks a new centre back.

Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo is on the wish list at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to the London Evening Standard, who claim that Tottenham have now ‘joined the race’ to sign Todibo.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are both missing right now and Tottenham’s lack of defensive depth has been exposed.

Spurs will surely invest in another defender come the January transfer window and Todibo is now the latest name on the wish list.

Tottenham join race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo

Reports from the London Evening Standard now claim that Tottenham are interested in snapping up Todibo in January.

The Nice defender – hailed as a ‘leader’ by teammate Dante – is shining in France and allegedly wants a big Premier League move.

Nice would allegedly sell Todibo for £39million and Tottenham are now weighing up a move for the Frenchman.

Todibo was a top talent at Toulouse and landed a big move to Barcelona in 2019, but failed to break through in Catalunya.

Barcelona cashed in on Todibo in 2021 and the 23-year-old has now started to fulfil his potential with Nice.

The 6ft 3in centre back has now picked up two France caps this year and his athletic ability may make him a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s back line.

Manchester United a threat in Todibo race

One problem for Tottenham is that Manchester United are a major threat in the race to sign Todibo.

United showed an interest in Todibo over the summer and are expected to chase him again in January or next summer.

Fabrizio Romano told The United Stand in October that Todibo would ‘love’ to sign for United in 2024.

We now have to factor in Sir Jim Ratcliffe too; the Ineos businessman is set to buy a 25% stake in United and already controls Nice.

That may give United the upper hand in the race for Todibo, with Tottenham left hoping that Ratcliffe and co don’t block a deal out of not wanting to strengthen a rival.
