Tottenham ‘very confident’ of imminent deal for ‘devastating’ Conte target

Adama Traore now has no interest in signing a new contract at Wolves, to leave Tottenham Hotspur ‘very confident’ of sealing a transfer for Antonio Conte’s target in the coming days.

That’s according to CBS, who report the Spaniard is showing no signs that he wants to stay at Molineux long-term. His existing deal with the Black Country side expires in 2023 as talks over new terms – which started during the 2020/21 campaign – have continually stuttered.

So, Tottenham are pressing ahead in their discussions with Wolves as Conte wants Traore’s transfer secured as soon as possible. The Spurs boss is determined to add the £43k-a-week dynamo to his squad before the market slams shut next week.

Tottenham believe they can wrap up Traore’s arrival in north London in the coming days to satisfy Conte’s desires. Managing Director Fabio Paratici has also already spoken to the 26-year-old’s representative to discuss personal terms, per Fabrizio Romano.

Additionally, The Athletic report senior figures at Wolves expect Traore to join Tottenham in the January transfer window. But the West Midlands outfit rejected Spurs’ £15m bid, as they demand closer to £20m. Yet the small gap in valuations is what feeds Wolves’ expectations.

Wolves know January is their best transfer window to sell Traore to Tottenham

Wolves likely know Tottenham’s interest this month represents their best chance to agree a good fee for Traore’s transfer. The eight-cap winger entering the final year of his contract without wanting to renew will only bring his value down.

Traore is also not enjoying the best of seasons at Molineux in terms of direct output under Bruno Lage. The imposing forward – who Tony Cascarino calls ‘devastating’ – only has one goal and no assists after 23 appearances so far.

He has also only played 1,182-minutes over his outings, starting 11, across all competitions. Traore has not opened either of Wolves’ last five Premier League games since travelling to Manchester City on December 11.
