Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a host of managers in recent weeks.

Speculation was already doing the rounds while Antonio Conte was still at the helm of Spurs.

Then, in wake of his post-Southampton press conference and subsequent exit, speculation has intensified.

Mauricio Pochettino is very much the script-writer’s choice for the Spurs role.

He knows Tottenham well and coached them to dizzying heights between 2014 and 2019.

However, Pochettino is far from the only manager linked with the Spurs reins.

Vincent Kompany’s name has been doing the rounds lately.

The Sun recently claimed the Burnley boss had emerged as a leading contender for the vacant Spurs job.

The 36-year-old has worked wonders at the Championship club, steering them to the brink of promotion.

Kompany has also transformed their playing style, turning them into what some have deemed ‘Man City-lite’.

And ESPN pundit Craig Burley reckons the Belgian would be a great shout for Tottenham. Indeed, he’d favour Kompany over Pochettino.

“If Graham Potter was a hard sell then Brendan Rodgers would be a very hard sell as well at the moment,” he told ESPN.

“We’re talking about stock dropping off a cliff, and his has,” Burley said.

“I know it’s a big step, but he has the gravitas, the aura, the experience of playing and enough experience of managing.

“Vincent Kompany that is, it’s a left-field decision and I look at the others and they wouldn’t excite me.”

“You would have Kompany over Pochettino?” Burley was asked.

He replied: “I would, because I just don’t like going back and back over the same movie.”

‘Natural-born leader’

Spurs have tried with high-profile, marquee managers, and it hasn’t worked out.

Tottenham would be better off with the Mauricio Pochettino model, albeit with another boss.

This way, it would ensure a blank slate as a new manager seeks to write a new chapter with Spurs.

And Kompany certainly ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham.

Tottenham cult hero Jan Vertonghen said of Kompany in 2014, as per the Irish Times: “Vincent is a natural-born leader.

“He’s the leader on and off the pitch. That’s how everyone sees him.

“He’s not fake. He’s like the father of the team, taking care of everything and everyone.”
