Tottenham Hotspur’s move to sign wing back Destiny Udogie was just too good for Italian side Udinese to turn down last summer.

Tottenham’s recruitment has been under the microscope again in recent days after Antonio Conte blasted his own players.

Conte may well end up leaving and Fabio Paratici isn’t exactly safe in his own job right now.

Paratici does appear to have pulled off an impressive deal for Tottenham though.

The signing of Destiny Udogie from Udinese appears to be a rare case of Tottenham being ahead of the curve.

Tottenham secured a deal worth £15million rising to £18million for Udogie last summer before loaning him back to Udinese.

That allowed Udogie to keep developing in Italy whilst ensuring that Tottenham didn’t risk missing out.

Udinese chief comments on Destiny Udogie to Tottenham

Udogie has been impressing as a left wing back this season and was hailed for a ‘top-notch’ performance against AC Milan over the weekend.

The 20-year-old looks destined for a huge future and Tottenham should be delighted to have him on board.

Udinese technical director Pierpaolo Marino has now opened up on Udogie’s exit in quotes posted by Fabrizio Romano.

Marino noted that Tottenham were offering ‘really big money’ for Udogie and Udinese just couldn’t say no in the end.

“We decided to sell Destiny Udogie to Tottenham last summer as they were offering really big money, it was impossible to reject,” said Marino.

Paying that kind of cash for Udogie and leaving him on loan at Udinese for a year is a sign of the faith Tottenham have in him for the long-term.

Udogie may have to modify his game a little at Tottenham given that Conte – who plays exclusively with wing backs – appears to be on his way out.

Udogie would have been ideal for that system but Tottenham could end up going for somebody who plays a different way.

Still, Udogie has enormous potential and his form for Udinese this season suggests Tottenham have a star on their hands.
