Tottenham Hotspur have signed Tyrell Ashcroft from Reading, a player who was backed for a big future at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Tottenham have enjoyed a busy summer window with four signings already secured.

Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison have all joined Tottenham, adding proven quality to the Tottenham side.

It’s not all about senior additions though and Tottenham have now confirmed a couple of additions to their development ranks.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Tyrell Ashcroft

Irish goalkeeper Josh Keeley is one of the new signings with the 19-year-old stopper arriving from St Pat’s Athletic in Ireland.

That deal has been rumoured for a while now and won’t have surprised many Tottenham fans.

Yet whilst confirming Keeley’s arrival, Tottenham also announced the signing of Reading talent Tyrell Ashcroft.

Aschroft hadn’t really been talked about as a potential signing but has now made the move to North London.

Aschroft, 17, has come up through the Reading ranks – an academy that has produced some very good players in recent times.

The likes of Rob Dickie, Jack Stacey, Omar Richards and Michael Olise have all thrived after being with the Royals.

Ashcroft will hope to become a star and there are high hopes for him after making four Championship appearances last term.

Primarily a right back, Ashcroft has even played further forward and in midfield.

Former Royals boss Veljko Paunovic heaped praise on Ashcroft last season, telling Berkshire Live that he felt the defender was ‘fantastic’ whilst having real confidence and quality.

Paunovic added that Ashcroft had a ‘big future’ at Reading and had shown himself as a ‘big asset’, with a real hope that he would become a Reading star.

That hasn’t happened though as Reading have now lost Ashcroft to Tottenham, who will feel that they may just have a star on their hands.
