Ireland Under-19s manager Tom Mohan has spoken highly of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Parrott, describing him as a “quality performer” and hoping he will be available for his nation once back from injury (Irish Mirror).

The 17-year-old is highly rated at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has already trained with the Spurs first team, the Irishman touted for a huge future with the North Londoners having hit 19 goals in 27 games in all competitions this past season.

Indeed, Spurs and Republic legend Robbie Keane has also waxed lyrical about Parrott, saying he “absolutely” has the ability to succeed and that Mauricio Pochettino loves him, whilst also urging caution over his development and not pigeonholing him as the next Keane (Irish Times).

Mohan spoke to the Irish Mirror about the upcoming Under-19 European finals, the Republic being one of just eight elite teams in the tournament, having gone on a six-match unbeaten run to qualify.

The side has unfortunately found itself missing some key players as the tournament falls outside the FIFA window, so clubs get the final say, and several stars, such as Norwich City’s Adam Idah, Southampton’s Michael Obafemi and Stoke City’s Nathan Collins, have been drafted in for pre-season.

While Parrott has not yet been ruled out, he remains a considerable doubt as he works his way back from injury, though Spurs will ultimately have the final say over his availability.

“Troy Parrott is still coming back from his injury,” Mohan told the Irish Mirror. “We have to see how that unfolds first of all and then whether he’s going to be with Spurs’ first team.

“The most important thing with any player, especially coming back from an injury, is his well-being. That’s the same with all players. Players have got to be fit and then we’ll assess the situation but we’d very much like to have Troy with us as he’s a quality performer.”
