Borussia Monchengladbach captain Yann Sommer has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign for Bayern Munich, with Tottenham now set to miss out on the Swiss international.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 34-year-old goalkeeper is inching closer to signing for Bayern with Sommer now agreeing on a deal until 2025 with the Bundesliga giants despite interest from the likes of Tottenham this January.

Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that the veteran shot-stopper was on Tottenham’s radar as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris this year. However, it now appears that Bayern have won the race for Sommer, with Manuel Neuer out until next season with a broken leg.
Regarded by many as one of the most underrated keepers in all of Europe, Sommer signing for Bayern will seemingly make more sense than the Swiss star joining Tottenham, with Lloris still the north London side’s undisputed no. 1 and their club captain.
Moreover, the two goalkeepers are close enough in age that Sommer wouldn’t feel like much of an upgrade on Lloris despite the Gladbach star’s more consistent performances this season compared to the Tottenham skipper, which could be why the 34-year-old has opted to join Bayern this month.
Sommer has made the right choice signing for Bayern

Sommer has been a mainstay in the Bundesliga for the good part of eight years, with the keeper easily one of the best in his position and a Gladbach icon his own right. And the shot-stopper is making the right choice in signing for Bayern despite interest from Tottenham.
After all, Sommer will be a guaranteed starter for Bayern with Neuer out until next season, and with Tottenham’s current keeper fully fit, signing for Spurs would have made little sense given how perfect the Swiss star is to play for a club as big as Munich.
