Tottenham are reportedly struggling to strike a deal with Sporting Lisbon to sign Pedro Porro, with the north London side in fresh talks with the Portuguese club over the defender.
According to A Bola, Spurs are ‘way off’ from agreeing a transfer with Sporting for Porro, who the Primeira Liga side want €45m (£40m) for as Tottenham are due for a new round of discussions for the 23-year-old right-back later this week.
As per the report, Chelsea are also interested in signing Porro. However, Tottenham are believed to be leading the chase in landing the former Manchester City star this January, with Antonio Conte making the right-back his main transfer priority for the month.
The Italian manager is desperate to sign a new right-back this January with Conte not sold on the likes of Djed Spence and Matt Doherty for the position, with Emerson Royal also out of favour with the Tottenham boss, which is why a deal for Porro is so important for the north London coach.

Indeed, Tottenham’s negotiating methods to sign Porro have seemingly struck a nerve with Sporting, with the north London side seemingly doing everything in their power to not meet the defender’s £40m release clause that will guarantee the right-back’s move back to England.
However, Tottenham seem intent on sticking to their guns in how they are dealing the Porro transfer. Yet if Conte is to land his man this January, the north London side must change strategy if they’re to successfully sign the Spanish youngster in the coming weeks.
Tottenham need new plan to sign Porro this Janaury

Tottenham’s January window is not exactly going to plan. The north London side are yet to make a single signing and the club still have numerous players who would be much better off out on loan or even sold for good. And in the case of Porro, Spurs need a new tactic to sign the defender.
As we know, Tottenham are unwilling to meet Sporting’s demands for the right-back. And as a result, Spurs need a new way of approaching this deal, with a transfer fee closer to the defender’s release clause as well as some realistic add ons something that could swing talks in Conte’s favour.
