Tottenham are reportedly set to meet with Sporting Lisbon today to discuss a potential deal to sign Marcus Edwards, with the former Spurs academy prospect on Antonio Conte’s radar.
According to the Daily Mail, the north London side will meet with the Portuguese giants this Wednesday to talk about the 23-year-old winger, with Edwards a target for Tottenham having impressed against his former side in the UEFA Champions League this season.
With a release clause of £52m, Edwards would be quite the expensive signing for Tottenham this month. However, because of a 50% sell-on clause in the attacker’s Sporting contract as per the report, a deal would actually end up costing Spurs just £26m.
Conte is eager to make new signings this month as Tottenham’s form has once again slumped following a 2-2 draw to Brentford and a 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa, with seemingly every area of the pitch in need of some fresh faces if the north London side are to qualify for the top-four.

And Edwards would be quite the signing for Tottenham, with Gary Lineker once lauding the winger as ‘wonderfully talented’ after Sporting’s performances against Spurs in the Champions League, with the attacker’s reputation hitting an all-time high this season.
Indeed, Edwards’ form has been impressive this campaign, and a return to Tottenham would be quite the outcome given how highly-rated the youngster once was in Spurs’ academy, with the forward someone who could now thrive under Conte.
Tottenham signing Edwards could be one of the coups of the window

With Tottenham having a 50% sell-on clause for Edwards, a deal involving the former England youth international this month will see the north London side land a potential bargain in the Sporting superstar, with this latest update an encouraging one for supporters.
Edwards showed in the Champions League this season against Tottenham that he is a player with the potential to become something special. And having already been discarded by Spurs once in his career, the winger returning to north London would be quite the story as well as a bargain for Conte.
