Italian outlet Roma Giallorossa claim Tottenham have put Bryan Gil ‘on the plate’ in a deal to sign Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo this month. Zaniolo is now expected to leave Roma and Spurs are intent on luring the Italian to North London.

Zaniolo, 23, was key for Roma last season. Having a hand in 17 goals, he scored the winner in the Europa Conference League final. But talks over a new deal have broken down. The Italy international is in the final 18 months of his deal.

Spurs were keen n the summer and that interest has remained until now. Journalist Rudy Galetti claims Spurs have agreed personal terms with Zaniolo, though the two clubs are yet to strike an agreement over a fee, or type of deal.

Indeed, Spurs want a loan deal with an option. Roma want a permanent sale – an immediate transfer, or a loan deal with an obligation worth £30million. Now, Spurs are trying to tempt Roma by including Gil in a deal for Zaniolo.

Tottenham put Gil on the plate in deal to sign Zaniolo

It is a good move for Spurs. It sees them immediately bring in an attacker that can offer more than Gil, but is almost as young. Gil is a good young player but ultimately, he is not good enough to have a real impact on Antonio Conte’s side.

He needs regular minutes and he is not getting that at Spurs. At Roma, he would certainly play more, especially with Roma in the Europa League knockout stages. Cash, and Gil, would also see Roma immediately replace Zaniolo.

Whether Roma are open to a cash-plus-player offer remains to be seen. But it does seem like a deal that would suit all parties involved. Gil gets game time, Zaniolo wants a move to Spurs, Spurs get their man and Roma get a replacement.
