Tottenham Hotspur have joined Arsenal in the race to snap up Blackburn Rovers ace Adam Wharton amid comparisons to Jack Wilshere.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham have been scouting Blackburn of late – and it’s because of Wharton.

The report notes that Arsenal, Leicester City and West Ham United are also very interested in Wharton.

That backs up claims from the weekend as The Sun reported that Arsenal were joining the race for Wharton’s signature.

Newcastle United are also understood to be keen on landing the midfielder, who has emerged as a huge talent this season.

What’s interesting is that the Mail describe Wharton as a ‘taller Jack Wilshere’ thanks to his ability to get on the ball and show his quality whilst also being tenacious in the tackle.

Arsenal would no doubt love another Wilshere-like talent but they must now fend off rivals Tottenham for his signature.

Blackburn have now missed out on a playoff spot and offers to cash in on Wharton for a decent price and hefty sell-on clause may well appeal.

Who is Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Adam Wharton?

Wharton was born and bred in Blackburn, so he will surely only leave his hometown club for the absolute right move.

The 18-year-old has come up through the Rovers ranks and is now shining in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s first team.

Wharton has ended the season with 18 Championship appearances to his name, as well as two goals and one assist.

Whilst brother Scott is also on the Rovers books, it’s Adam who is being backed for an enormous future.

Wharton has also broken into the England Under-19 setup, earning three caps – and there should be more to come.

The Rovers talent has only recently established himself in the Rovers first team, so he surely wouldn’t be an immediate Premier League starter – but he could become a star of the future.
