Tottenham Hotspur are now showing an interest in a summer transfer for Fikayo Tomori of AC Milan. Spurs may even offer Emerson Royal to the Rossoneri for the England defender.

That is according to CalcioMercatoWeb, which reports Tottenham are interested in Tomori irrespective of Antonio Conte’s future in north London. The Italian tactician staying beyond the end of the current term is still uncertain. He is yet to commit to signing a new contract.

Tottenham appreciate what Tomori could offer their backline no matter who is at the helm next season, though. Club chiefs believe the 25-year-old would improve the spine of the XI on offer to whoever is in charge. They are also putting plans in place for a potential swoop.

Should Pedro Porro now cement his claim to Tottenham’s right-back position, Spurs would happily include Royal in any transfer with AC Milan for Tomori. But the Serie A side will tell the Premier League outfit to add to the proposal as the Brazilian alone will not be enough.

Tottenham have committed to signing Porro this summer after paying Sporting Lisbon £5m for his initial loan transfer in January. The Spaniard will cost Spurs a further £39m through an obligation to buy. But he endured a nightmare debut in the 4-1 defeat at Leicester City.

AC Milan are in a strong position to rebuff Tottenham’s interest in Tomori’s transfer

AC Milan paid Chelsea an initial £25m, plus £5m in add-ons, to sign Tomori after an initial loan transfer in June 2021. He also agreed to a contract extension through to June 2027 in August 2022. So, the Rossoneri are in a strong position to demand a substantial amount.

San Siro chiefs may also be loath to let Tottenham secure a transfer for Tomori as he holds a key role at AC Milan. The three-cap England international started in 18 of their 19 Serie A games before sustaining a hip injury in January. It kept him from facing Spurs this Tuesday.

Tottenham, then, will likely hope AC Milan value Royal at a similar fee to what they paid to sign the right-back. Spurs spent £26m on the 24-year-old, which The Telegraph noted left Camp Nou chiefs stunned. The La Liga giants could not believe Tottenham spent so highly.
