Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian wonderkid Otavio, though at 15-years-old, the striker is yet to even sign a professional contract with his club Athletico Paranaense.

According to Goal Brasil, the 6’3″ attacker has caught the eye of Spurs’ South American scouts having impressed for Athletico Paranaense at youth level, though given the rules on players moving to Europe, Tottenham will have to wait at least three years before the teenager can even move to London.

As per the report, Otavio is regarded by Athletico Paranaense officials as the biggest talent currently coming through in their academy, a statement that carries some weight to it given that Vitor Roque also came up through the club and is now tipped to sign for FC Barcelona amid interest from Arsenal.

And now, it looks like Tottenham are trying to beat everyone to the curve to sign Athletico Paranaense’s latest wonderkid, with Otavio now firmly on the north London club’s radar as Spurs look to scout South America for the continent’s most exciting talents.

Indeed, new Brexit rules for English clubs signing non-European players has opened a potential avenue for clubs to bring in some of South America’s biggest prospects, something the likes of Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion have already used to great effect, and Tottenham could now get on the action.

Whilst Otavio is only 15-years-old and will have to wait until he is 18 to move to England, Tottenham getting their foot in the door early could be a smart decision from the club, who could land themselves a Brazilian wonderkid who looks primed to explode in the coming years.

Tottenham are not usually a club that go after Brazilian wonderkids, with Spurs often a side that prides itself in landing the best of the best from their British homeland, yet Otavio could be an exception and one that Spurs should look to pursue before other clubs in Europe begin to catch on.

As we know, the teenager is highly rated by his club and is likely to make his senior debut sooner rather than later, and for Tottenham, getting a deal secured will be huge in their future plans, with Otavio a talent who could be their long-term answer to Harry Kane.
