RB Leipzig are reportedly weighing up a move to sign AS Roma star and long-term Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo, with the Bundesliga side eager to find a replacement for the injured Dani Olmo.
According to Bild, the Italian international has been identified by Leipzig as a late transfer option following the news that Olmo will be out for several weeks due to a torn fibre injury, with Zaniolo expected to leave Roma come the end of the January transfer window.
As per the report, the 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Italy with Zaniolo being dropped from the Roma squad in recent weeks to sort out a transfer away from the Stadio Olimpico, with Tottenham long-term admirers of the Serie A star.
However, Antonio Conte’s side are yet to reach any sort of agreement with Roma for Zaniolo, with Leipzig potentially using the lack of progress in a deal to swoop in and sign the attacker in the final hours of the January window, with a transfer a potential coup for the Bundesliga side.

Indeed, Leipzig have been rightly regarded in the footballing world as canny operators when it comes to transfers, and the east German side could land on a bargain in the next 24 hours if they can strike a deal to sign Zaniolo from under Tottenham’s noses.
Moreover, with Spurs seemingly focussed on trying to salvage a deal to sign Pedro Porro, Leipzig could take full advantage of the madness and chaos to to land Zaniolo, a transfer that could be one of the best from a Bundesliga side this January.
Leipzig must throw all their cards on the table to sign Zaniolo

Zaniolo’s future is clearly away from Roma, with the Italian falling out with everyone at the club and unwilling to compromise on any possible truce. And for Leipzig, now is the perfect time to bring the attacker to Germany with Tottenham focussing their attention elsewhere.
Whilst Zaniolo’s form hasn’t set Serie A on fire this season, the forward is a talent who would be a welcome addition for any top side in Europe, and with Leipzig in the market for an attacker, the Roma outcast and Tottenham target could be ideal for the Bundesliga side.
