As per a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Real Madrid have set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur target Alessandro Bastoni as their long-term successor to David Alaba.
It has been claimed recently that the elegant defender, who Antonio Conte reportedly has his eyes on is in talks with Inter Milan were to extend his contract beyond 2024. Keeping that in mind, it seemed like Spurs were already on the backfoot in their attempts to sign the 23-year-old.
If that was not enough of a challenge, now Real Madrid have entered the race alongside Tottenham to sign Alessandro Bastoni as the defender to succeed David Alaba for years to come.
Real Madrid join Tottenham in Bastoni chase as Alaba heir
This is not the news any Lilywhites supporter would have dreamt of coming across as the weekend fast approaches.
However, Calciomercatoweb have indeed reported that Real Madrid could try to beat Tottenham to sign Alessandro Bastoni to replace David Alaba, in case he does not sign a contract extension at Inter Milan.

While the Austrian defender has impressed at Santiago Bernabéu, the report states that his long-term future remains uncertain, as he has not particularly convinced this season.
While Real Madrid consider another reported Tottenham target in Josko Gvardiol as their first-choice pick to succeed the Bayern legend in the long-term, Alessandro Bastoni is right behind him in their shortlist.
However, the Serie A side are expected to demand a £52.8 million fee to sell the ‘phenomenal’ central defender.
Tottenham have little to no chance of beating Los Blancos in this race
As showcased against Liverpool, Los Merengues are indeed the favourites to retain their Champions League crown.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, whether Tottenham even get into the top 4 is uncertain, which is why one can safely assume that if given a choice, Alessandro Bastoni would pick Real Madrid to be the heir to David Alaba.
In all fairness, almost any player in world football would.
