Tottenham Hotspur are now considering the transfer of Sevilla star Yassine ‘Bono’ Bounou to replace Hugo Lloris. The north London club are giving real thought to a new goalkeeper.
That is according to Rudy Galetti, who reports that Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici is spinning several plates for January and summer signings. A new goalkeeper is one of the tasks high on the Italian’s to-do list with Bounou and Everton star Jordan Pickford options.
Paratici has his eyes on multiple shot-stoppers as Tottenham are keen to sign Lloris’ heir in 2023. Galetti cannot rule out Spurs looking to raid Goodison Park to sign Pickford or trying to lure Bounou away from the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan after his superb World Cup.
Bounou helped Morocco reach the World Cup semi-finals before losing to France and then Croatia in the third-place play-off. The 31-year-old kept three clean sheets to five goals let in over six outings. He also saved Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets’ penalties against Spain.
Pickford also played a leading role at the World Cup in Qatar before England lost to France in the quarter-finals. The Everton ace opened all five of the Three Lions’ matches and kept three clean sheets. Tottenham’s interest in Pickford’s transfer is well-documented, as well.

But a possible transfer for Sevilla goalkeeper Bounou does not only interest Tottenham. La Razon reported back in September that David Moyes had added the Morocco star to West Ham United’s shopping list. The Irons boss sees the shot-stopper as his potential next No1.
Lukasz Fabianski has so far fended off competition from Alphonse Areola to remain Moyes’ first-choice shot-stopper this season. But the 37-year-old is out of contract in the summer. So, West Ham have tracked Bounou as the Montreal, Canada-born star has shone in Spain.
But Sevilla only signed Bounou to a new contract last April which locked the goalkeeper up until June 2025. Los Nervionenses also increased the release clause in his new terms from €30m (£26.5m) to €50m (£44.5m). Though they will consider accepting enticing lower bids.
Reports by Vamos Mi Sevilla in December claimed that Sevilla will grant Bounou a transfer this January for €30m (£26.5m). But it also noted that his strong displays at the World Cup also attracted interest from Aston Villa and Wolves in a potential mid-season raid for him.
Wolves also hired Julen Lopetegui in November as their new manager after sacking Bruno Lage. The Spaniard was in charge at Sevilla as Los Nervionenses signed Bounou for €4m (£3.5m) from Girona. He joined in an initial loan deal in 2019 which they made permanent.
