Galatasaray are reportedly close to agreeing on a complete deal to sign AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo despite the Italian international holding talks with Tottenham in January.
According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, “it’s a matter of time” before the 23-year-old is announced and unveiled as a new Gala player, with Tottenham set to miss out on the Serie A superstar despite seemingly coming close to a deal last month in the winter window.
Rudy Galetti had claimed that personal terms were agreed on between Tottenham and Zaniolo. However, with Arnaut Danjuma being signed and Spurs pushing for a deal to bring in Pedro Porro, time simply ran out for the north London side to bring the Italian to England.
As a result, Galatasaray have swooped in and now managed to secure a deal to sign Zaniolo in a deal that many would consider quite a shock given just how good the Roma star is compared to the overall quality of the Turkish Super Lig.

Indeed, whilst Galatasaray are comfortably top of the division and on course to return to the UEFA Champions League next season, few would have predicted Zaniolo to sign for the Istanbul-based giants, especially Tottenham, who were confident they could bring the 23-year-old to London in January.
However, with Roma looking for a quick sale and Zaniolo eager to leave Italy, it makes sense why a deal to sign for Galatasaray has been pushed through, with the attacker now ready to focus on his football and to get back to the top of his game.
Zaniolo signing for Galatasaray could be the start of something incredible

It would be something of an understatement to say that Galatasaray have pulled a blinder with Zaniolo, with the Italian international at one point this year looking set to join a Premier League giant in Tottenham to now heading to Turkey with Gala. And the move itself could be the start of something incredible.
With Zaniolo now out of the eye of the Italian media, the attacker now has the ability to get down to basics and start winning over fans on the football pitch, and signing for a club as big as Galatasaray could help the forward recapture his once magical form.
