Tottenham Hotspur have landed a boost to their pursuit of a transfer for Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin. There is now a ‘real possibility’ the forward leaves St James’ Park.
That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Eddie Howe wants up to five signings at Newcastle this summer. But the Toon must trim their side to raise funds for the manager’s plans. So, some of the Magpies’ big-name players may leave Tyneside once the sales start.
Newcastle can only afford to match Howe’s desires in line with players like Saint-Maximin securing moves away from the club. So, Jones claims that ‘sources are confirming’ there is now a ‘real possibility’ that Howe will sacrifice the 25-year-old after he fell to their fringes.

Saint-Maximin has only started in seven of the winger’s 15 Premier League appearances so far this season. He has further only scored one and assisted three goals. The former France U21 international has also not influenced a goal since registering an assist on November 6.
His sole goal for the campaign so far also came on August 28 before suffering a hamstring injury. The issue sidelined Saint-Maximin until October, after which he failed to regain the starting role to Joelinton. But Howe started them together in the EFL Cup final last Sunday.

Tottenham are monitoring Saint-Maximin’s Newcastle situation in view of a transfer
Newcastle preparing to sell Saint-Maximin in the summer transfer window will be a boost for Tottenham. The Sunday People (19/02, p62) reports that Spurs are monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation at St James’. They are also studying a move for once the market opens.
Tottenham considered targeting Saint-Maximin’s transfer from Newcastle over the January window, as well. He has appeared on the north London natives’ radar for a while and could now be an attainable goal. But Rudy Galetti noted the Toon were seeking £60m in January.
Newcastle paid OGC Nice £16.5m, up to £20m after add-ons, to sign Saint-Maximin back in August 2019. The forward, who Louis Saha considers ‘unreal’, also extended his contract to June 2026 in October 2020. He signed a £93k-a-week deal as a key star under Steve Bruce.
