Italian outlet AS Roma Live claim that Jose Mourinho wants to rival Tottenham in the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita on a free transfer this summer – and bring the struggling Anfield man to Serie A in the coming months.
Keita, 27, has struggled to really make his mark at Anfield. Bought from Leipzig for a fee of £53m in 2018, Keita has managed just 127 games in almost five years at Merseyside. Injuries have hampered the Guinea star’s Reds impact.
Now, Keita finds himself out of contract at the end of the season. It appears at this late stage that the chances of Keita earning a new Liverpool deal is unlikely. 90Min say talks are ongoing between Liverpool and Keita, but not advanced.
The report says that a number of Premier League clubs are trying to sign Keita, and Tottenham are considering an offer. But that a number of European teams are also keen. The list includes Lyon, Monaco and both Milan clubs, this summer.

However, AS Roma Live report that an old Tottenham manager has joined the race – in Mourinho. The ex-Spurs gaffer is impressing at Roma, winning the Conference League last term. He has guided Roma to third in the Serie A table.

While has been poor at Liverpool over the years, he has shown glimpses. Peter Crouch recently labeled the midfielder as “unbelievable” after a goal in a 1-0 win over Newcastle. So, on a free, he is easily worth signing for a big club.
One, in European competition. It is understandable that both Roma and Spurs want him. Which is the better move? Well, it is unlikely he would start for Antonio Conte at Spurs. But at Roma, he has a much better chance under Jose.
