Leicester City believe that they are asking for a fair price for playmaker James Maddison amid talks with Tottenham Hotspur.
James Maddison is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur but they will have to pay a hefty fee – in part because he is homegrown.
That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Leicester want to demand a ‘significant’ fee for Maddison this summer.
The Foxes may have gone down to the Championship but that isn’t affecting their demands over their star man.
Leicester think that Maddison’s statistics and position as an attacking player mean they can still demand around £50million for him.
Leicester also believe that Maddison should be worth around that figure because he is a homegrown player, potentially protecting his value.
The likes of Ben White and Kalvin Phillips have moved on for similar fees in recent years and Leicester’s argument will be that Maddison affects the game in the final third – and top attacking players tend to go for the most money.
If anybody thought that they could snap up Maddison on the cheap following Leicester’s relegation, they will need to dig a little deeper.

Tottenham in talks to sign James Maddison
The gauntlet has now been thrown down to Tottenham Hotspur, who appear to be keen on signing Maddison.
The Telegraph’s report claims that new Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has already given the green light to signing Maddison.
Spurs need to add a creative midfield player and Postecoglou – who pushes attacking football at all times – understandably wants Maddison.
90Min go even further; they claim that Tottenham have now opened talks to bring Maddison to North London.
Other clubs are keen too but with Tottenham now having their new manager in place, Spurs are trying to swoop in.
This just seems to make perfect sense for Tottenham.
Spurs need homegrown players and Maddison is the kind of playmaker they have desperately needed since Christian Eriksen’s 2019 exit.
Paying a premium on homegrown players is to be expected these days and Tottenham will have to be very convincing if they want to drive Leicester’s price down.
