Jamie Redknapp has suggested Tottenham Hotspur to push Arsenal in their transfer pursuit of Declan Rice in the summer.

The West Ham United midfielder has been linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s side for the past couple of months.

While many would consider the transfer battle for Declan Rice between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as one-sided, Jamie Redknapp seemingly does not think so.

While some may have blatantly claimed that Rice’s levels have dropped off this season, it is commonly believed that he could become a certified world-class player at a ‘Big Six’ club.

In fact, many believe that the England international would be the perfect upgrade on Granit Xhaka in that left-sided midfield role and would succeed Thomas Partey in the future with ease.

However, Jamie Redknapp has told Tottenham to try to pull off a transfer for Declan Rice, despite Arsenal seemingly sitting in the driver’s seat for his signature.

“Declan Rice is available. Now, Arsenal are in the mix, why can’t Spurs be in the mix? That’s the sort of level of player they need to be trying to acquire. That’s what they should be doing right now but I just don’t think that’ll happen”, he said on Football.London.

HITC View: Tottenham can try all they want but the Gunners are favourites to sign him

While it seems like Jamie Redknapp is merely suggesting Tottenham to show ambition by trying to pull off a transfer for Declan Rice, the reality is that if Arsenal are seriously interested, their chances of landing him are virtually nil.

The Gunners seem set to secure at least second place in league alongside Champions League football.

Spurs, on the other hand could play in the Europa League next season, whilst there being no indication of who their next manager is.

A player of Rice’s calibre would find it easy to snub the struggling Lilywhites when a club on the up such as the Gunners may be keen on securing his services.
