The Times claim Inter Milan are showing deadline-day interest in raiding Tottenham for out-of-favour defender Japhet Tanganga, and want to sign the England U21 star on loan until the end of the season. Tanganga is struggling to play.

Tanganga, 23, clocked up only his fourth appearance of the season on Saturday as he played the entire 90 minutes of his side’s 3-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup. But it might be his last for Spurs this season – with deadline day ongoing.

Indeed, Spurs are active. Pedro Porro is set to join the club from Sporting Lisbon. Spanish newspaper Marca say Matt Doherty is also on the move, joining Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid on loan. Djed Spence is about to join Rennes.

Now, a third right-sided defender in the form of Tanganga could leave the club. Interest has arrived from one of Antonio Conte’s old sides in the form of Inter Milan. The Nerrazzuri are keen to bring Tanganga to Serie A on loan.

The issue for Spurs, is homegrown registration in the Champions League. The club can pick 25 players for the knockout stages. But, eight of those have got to be homegrown. The likes of Harry Kane, Eric Dier. Tanganga is also on that list.

Letting him go would see Spurs lose a player that fits the criteria. The signing of Danjuma took Spurs to 19. Spence will see Spurs lose a homegrown player, while Porro will increase that tally. Doherty is going and Gil has joined Sevilla.

So, the chances are that Tottenham will not let any homegrown players go with Spence about to join Rennes until the end of the season. Tanganga’s versatility may be key, too. Given, Doherty and Spence are leaving the club already.
