Inter Milan have reportedly reignited contract talks with rumoured Tottenham target Alessandro Bastoni, with the defender heavily linked with a departure away from the San Siro.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian international is one of the key players Inter are looking to tie down to a new deal in the coming weeks, with the £50m-rated centre-back often stating that he wants to stay in Italy with the Nerazzurri.

With Inter now setting a new stance for Bastoni having failed in their previous round of talks to commit the defender to a new contract, there could be new optimism that the Serie A giants can finally secure the 23-year-old’s signature for the future, which could be huge heading into the summer.

As reported by Calciomercato, Tottenham have been linked with Bastoni for some time and have made the centre-back a top target for 2023. However, this update could be a hammer blow for Spurs, with their European rivals now set to restart talks over a new contract.

Indeed, whilst Inter failed in their last attempt to get Bastoni to pen fresh terms, a breakthrough could be reached in the coming days if the Nerazzurri are willing to match the defender’s demands, something that the Milan-based giants must be willing to do if they’re to keep hold of one of their star players.

A move to the Premier League would make a lot of sense for Bastoni given how good the defender is, however, with Inter pushing hard to keep the centre-back in Milan, the Italian international could be better off remaining in Lombardy given how far the talent could go with the historic side.

With Milan Skriniar leaving for PSG this summer, Bastoni will become Inter’s new titan in the defence, and the 23-year-old could flourish in his new role as a leader from the back and dictating play in what could be an exciting era for the Serie A giants.
