Alex Meret’s agent Federico Pastorello has said an English club has been in contact to sign the Napoli goalkeeper, with Tottenham recently being linked with the Italian international.
Speaking to SportItalia, the shot-stopper’s representative revealed that discussions are ongoing with Meret to sign a new deal with Napoli, though an unnamed English club is interested in the 25-year-old, with Pastorello saying: “I am talking to Napoli about renewing his contract, but there is interest from an England club.”
As reported by La Repubblica via Calcio Napoli 24, Tottenham are keen on signing the Napoli superstar with Antonio Conte keen to bring in a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, with the former Udinese keeper an ideal player to take over from the 36-year-old Frenchman.
With a transfer valuation of £23m according to Football Transfers, Meret would be a pricey option for Tottenham considering how cheap other options are in the market for Spurs. However, based on the Italian’s form this season, the 25-year-old could be exactly what the north London side are looking for.

Meret has played every minute for Napoli this season in all competitions as the Serie A side topped their UEFA Champions Leauge group with flying colours as well as currently sitting 12 points clear of the domestic standings after 19 games.
Indeed, with Tottenham looking to sign a keeper, Meret would be a great option for the north London club, and with the shot-stopper’s agent now saying contact has been made from an English club, moves could be in the making behind the scenes to bring the Italian to the Premier League.
Tottenham must do all they can to sign Meret this month

Replacing Lloris will be one of the most important transfers Tottenham make in recent years, and in Meret, Conte could have the perfect option given the Italian’s age, form this season and his potential to grow into a better player in England.
With the shot-stopper also financially in Tottenham’s sights, Meret could be possible to sign this month if Spurs are proactive enough to bring the keeper to north London, though trying to convince Napoli to sell one of their star players in what is looking to be a historic season will be difficult.
