Atalanta defender Cristian Romero has agreed a five-year contract with the option of a sixth at Tottenham Hotspur as he prepares to move to North London.
That’s according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims that Romero has ‘given his ok’ to the transfer and has agreed terms on a deal until 2026, possibly even 2027.
That’s encouraging news for Tottenham, but the deal for Romero is not done just yet.
Tottenham are still negotiating with Atalanta for Romero, with the deal being valued at around €40million to €45million (£34million to £38million) plus €10million (£8.5million) in add-ons.
Thrashing out the payment plan could take some time, but Tottenham seem to be close to a deal having agreed terms with Romero.
Director of football Fabio Paratici knows Romero well having signed him for Juventus in 2019 after impressing at Genoa.

Paratici then agreed deals to send Romero on loan to Genoa and Atalanta, and is now ready to bring the Argentinian to North London, signing him for a second time.
Romero, 23, isn’t the biggest centre back of all time at 6ft 1in tall, but he’s strong, aggressive and reads the game well, leading to him becoming one of Italian football’s top defenders.
Tottenham really need a defensive leader, especially with Toby Alderweireld on the move, and Romero looks to be the man to come in after this latest update.
