Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Antonio Conte has made ‘precise indications’ to the Tottenham board to raid Napoli and sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for the 23-24 campaign – a player Fabio Paratici has previously tried to sign.

Kvaratskhelia, 21, joined Napoli in the summer and has instantly, hit the ground running. Playing 18 times for the Serie A leaders, the 19-time Georgia international has clocked up eight goals and 10 assists for his new club.

An incredible feat. He is unlikely to leave Napoli this summer given Luciano Spalletti’s side currently sit at the top of Serie A, and look good to go on and win the title. They only lost their first game of the season on Wednesday night.

CM have previously reported that Tottenham like Kvaratskhelia. Now, CM say Conte has told the board to bring him to the club – and that Paratici tried to sign him at Juventus. Fabrizio Romano says he could cost a huge £87million.

Spurs do have options in the final third. Son Heung-min broke his drought on Wednesday night, Harry Kane has an enormous 15 goals in 18 League games. Bryan Gil was superb at Palace. Richarlison, Lucas Moura, Deki Kulusevski.

But, Spurs need better if they want to go from top-four candidates to title contenders. Moura could leave at the end of the season. Richarlison and Kulusevski have been injured regularly. Gil is a rookie, and Son’s form has been poor.

Spurs need proper competition for Son on the left and Kvaratskhelia is certainly that. He could be a replacement for Son, who is now in his thirties, in the long run. Whether the Georgian would be keen, is a complete other question.

Also, a fee of £87million would see Spurs smash their transfer record. Unlikely, even with Conte in the dugout. A club like Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City or even Liverpool are much better-placed to spend that.
