Tottenham Hotspur had scouts at Goodison Park to watch Anthony Gordon as Everton lost 4-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion. But Antonio Conte’s January transfer target did not feature.
That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports Spurs’ recruitment team sought to watch Gordon on Tuesday night. But Frank Lampard was without the 21-year-old as his team lost after a woeful performance. A bout of illness meant the winger watched his team at home.

Conte sought to have Tottenham scout Gordon as Everton hosted Brighton as the Italian is chasing new attacking options. He believes Spurs must invest further funds in their attack to claim a top-four finish in the Premier League and to compete in the Champions League.

Tottenham have already signed two forwards in successive markets since appointing Conte in November 2021. Spurs paid Juventus £8.5m for the 18-month loan of Dejan Kulusevski with a £29m option to buy in 2023. Richarlison also joined Tottenham from Everton in July.
Spurs paid the Toffees an initial £50m, rising up to £60m with add-ons, to land Richarlison. They also sought a deal with Everton for Gordon’s transfer back in the off-season. But Ben Jacobs claimed Tottenham only wanted to pay £35m and Chelsea were tabling a £60m bid.

Conte will not give up on Tottenham’s interest in Gordon’s transfer from Everton
Chelsea are unlikely to return to their interest in Gordon after sacking Thomas Tuchel and hiring Graham Potter in September. That is according to The Sun, at least, which reported in November that Tottenham were still chasing Gordon but Everton would want at least £60m.
Conte still had Gordon on his shortlist at the time and was still submitting enquiries for a mid-season move. Even though the Toffees product has endured a more challenging term so far. The England U21 star has scored three goals in his 15 Premier League appearances.

Gordon bagged two of his goals in August before hitting a cliff with his performances. The attacker, whom Rafa Benitez lauded as ‘very explosive’, started the campaign as Lampard’s main man. But he has since offered an array of frustrating and inauspicious performances.
